About Our Ministries
In 2009 the Lord gave Lauren a vision. In the vision she was dancing, and as the vision faded she heard the Lord whisper to “Dance”. As silly as it seems she was asked “what does He mean”? Periodically over the next few years He continued to tell her to dance. The vision He gave her and the words He spoke never left her spirit. However, she honestly didn’t know what to do with them.
It wasn’t until November of 2010 that the Lord began bringing this request to pass. Lauren was asked to be in a praise dance for the Abundant Life Christmas drama, not only to be in it but to do a solo part. With the words of the Lord still fresh in her spirit, she knew that she couldn’t decline it. To say she was uncomfortable is an understatement. Dancing in front of everyone, even at practices, went against every natural bone in her body. But with each practice things began to get easier. Something was being birthed.
The night before the Christmas drama was to take place her grandfather passed away. Even through the sadness she knew she had to dance. God’s vision and His words still rang in her spirit. That night there wasn’t a nervous bone in her body. The great comforter was with her, and it was as though He was the only one in the room. After that night the vision became clearer. Lauren knew what the Lord wanted her to do. This is how the Abundant Life praise dance/drama team was birthed. Lauren is still in awe of how our merciful Lord works.
The vision for this team is to bring forth unfiltered praise to the Heavenly Father. They desire to dance before the Lord as David did, unashamed and with all our hearts. Ushering in the Presence and Glory of God is the deepest desire of this team.
Lauren Porter - Director of Dance / Drama Ministry
Lauren and Joseph Porter have been married since 2003. They have been attending Abundant Life since 2009. Lauren was raised in a small Baptist Church, in Bessemer, Alabama. The Baptism of the Holy Spirit and the gifts of the Spirit were something she knew nothing about. Shortly after Lauren attended Abundant Life the Lord began to move Lauren out of her comfort zone and into His calling for her life. The Lord has continued to open her eyes to the moving of His Spirit, and to the power of His Word.
Early in 2006, the Lord began to deal with Sandra Arnold to start a Ladies Ministry. This group started in April 2006, and meets once a month. This group is open to ladies 18 years of age or older. The purpose of the Ladies Ministry is to TEACH, ENCOURAGE, and SUPPORT. This ministry has 4 scriptures that they believe are basic to live the victorious life that God provided for us.
1. MATTHEW 6:33- Seek first the Kingdom of God
2. PROVERBS 4:20- Attend to God’s Word and it will be life and health to you
3. JOHN 15: 1-17 – Stay united in love
4. GALATIANS 6:1-9 – Whatever we sow we will reap
At Abundant Life you will be accepted, God has a place for you to grow and sow, a place to be ministered to and a place to minister to others.
Sandra Arnold - Associate Minister & Women's Ministry Coordinator
Sandra and Larry Arnold have been married since 1968, they have 3 children and 5 grandchildren. They have been at Abundant Life since its inception.
Sandra grew up in an Assembly of God church that was started by her grandmother. When she was young she helped in Vacation Bible School and Sunday school. She always had a desire to teach, and has served in that capacity, in several areas at Abundant Life. For many years her heart has been toward the family. Her desire has been to see families whole, and the only way to accomplish that is thru God’s Word. She has seen the faithfulness of God in over 40 years of marriage, many struggles, and set backs, but if she has a claim to fame or secret formula, it would be that she never gave up, and she wants to encourage every lady to hold on to God.
The Band of Brothers men’s ministry is made up of several men who have said "Yes" to the call of our King Jesus Christ. We have committed to follow Him in battle, to become His disciples, to become more like Him no matter the cost, and to raise a generation that will do the same. The Band of Brothers is a group of men who have made this covenant with God:
- To be brothers of Christ by total surrender to Jesus Christ (Luke 14:33)
- To covenant together with other Jonathan/David relationships (I Samuel 20).
- To raise a generation that will follow in the ways of the Lord
We are challenging other men to do the same - for we know we cannot fight this battle alone. The Bible states that “As iron sharpens iron, so a man his brother.” (Proverbs 27:17) and “Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not easily broken.” (Ecclesiastes 4:12). We are not alone in the battles that we face. Therefore, we are crying out to other men to step up to the call and embrace their rightful heritage.
This group is open to men 18 years of age and older. We meet every month for special events and/or community outreaches (check the calender under the Upcoming Events tab). All men are invited to join us at our upcoming meetings. For more information on this ministry contact Red Alexander.
I surrender my all to God - no matter the cost - so that I can become more like Jesus Christ - my brother and King. I will join this Band of Brothers, for whose lives, families, and legacies I will fight. Together we can fulfill our mission to glorify God our Father and to raise up a generation that will follow after the Lord.
Gary Alexander - Men's Minister
Gary “Red” Alexander has attended Abundant Life since 1978. He and Jackie Alexander were married in 1995 and have four children.
Red spent the majority of his adult life as a bored Christian. His life seemed to have no real purpose. Then God radically changed his life in 2008. His life now has meaning and purpose. Reaching people with the life giving message of Jesus is the only thing that fulfills him now.
Red wants people to know that Abundant Life is not about religion, fancy suits, or big offerings. It doesn’t matter about your background or what side of the tracks you’re from. He wants everyone to come just as they are and join us as we worship God with sincere expression.
Children’s Church - POWER HOUSE KIDZ
POWER HOUSE KIDZ is the children’s church program at Abundant Life. This program is for children ages 5-10. Their moto is “Empowering Kidz for Life”. The desire of this ministry is to teach the Word which will empower our kids to be over-comers in this life.
Proverbs 22:6 says “Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it.”
At Abundant Life your child will be loved and accepted. We believe children are our most valuable resource, they are our future. Children will participate in awesome praise and worship. They will participate in skits, plays, games, videos, music, and crafts to learn the Word. When they leave the POWERHOUSE we want them to know someone loves them and that they have God’s power on the inside of them. This group meets on Sunday morning at 11:00 AM (during Sunday morning worship service).
Amanda Mickle - Children's Ministry Director
Brian and Amanda Mickle have been married since 1999 and have two children. Amanda has attended Abundant Life her entire life and Brian began attending when they were dating.
Amanda has always had a heart for the children, babysitting and helping with children’s ministry as a teenager. After the birth of her first child, she felt the Lord calling her to Nursery work. She became Nursery Director and served in that position 5 years. As the church grew she felt a calling to help in Children’s Church with the 5 and 6 year olds. She did this for 2 years and in May 2009 she became Children’s Church Director.
Little Tykes Nursery
The Little Tykes Nursery is available to children birth through four years of age during church services. Parents with nursery age children, along with other volunteers, help care for these little blessings. Our goal is to teach the children the importance of the Word of God and His son Jesus while providing an environment filled with love. The nursery is available during all service times.
We believe that worship is one of the most important elements in a Church. We aim to praise and worship God with powerful, heart felt music that stirs and blesses the Spirit of God - and stirs the Spirit of God in you. We believe that worship brings unity and that God honors us when we join in unified worship to him.
Our Worship is:
Contemporary – We utilize up to date resources to create a worship experience that honors God while appealing to a new generation.
Exciting – We like it loud, new, fresh, and exciting! In keeping with our vision we are looking to stir up a passion in the hearts of all of those who come.
Real – Our worship is not a show. We praise God without reservation on a personal and corporate level by putting the focus of our worship in the right place…..On God.
Spirit Filled – Our worship is spirit led and full of God’s Glory!
THE RADIATORS is the Student Ministry at Abundant Life. This ministry is focused on young people in middle and high school. The Radiators goal is to radiate God’s light, God’s love, and God’s life to all they come in contact with.
This ministry is established on the following scripture: “Whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.” (1 John 2:6)
The Radiators is a group of young people who strive to love and accept everyone. This group is taught the Word of God in a creative environment and also participates in skits, plays, and games. The Radiators meet on Wednesday night at 7:00 PM and Sunday night at 5:00 PM.
Chris Owen - Student Pastor
Chris recently graduated college in 2008 where many life experiences and wonderful people changed his life. His eyes were opened to the fact that he had discounted many people by appearances and first impressions in the past. God used the experiences and new friends to show him that ALL of us are God’s children and that we all belong to Him.
Chris is constantly reminded of God's Love for His children in John 13:34 where it says, "I give you a new commandment - to love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another." He now takes this verse in mind and tries to apply it in his life everyday in order to see everyone the way God sees them.
